Alternative Gift Fair Happy Hour

by

Having trouble getting in the mood for holiday shopping? Is Christmas commercialism getting you down? Looking for gifts that aren’t just another sweater or gadget? Well, on Monday, December 5, DC Drinking Liberally is partnering with other organizations to lift your spirits and solve your gift-giving problems! Here’s the announcement from our friends at Capital Action:

Join Capital Action, DC Drinking Liberally, DC EcoWomen, SustainUS, Hands On DC, and other folks in the DC area for a night of buying meaningful gifts of charity for your friends and family to support a variety of nonprofit organizations. Meet some friends for happy hour, cross those items off your shopping list, and help people and communities in need all at the same time!

Drink and food specials from 6 to 7pm: $2.75 draft, rail, and wine and half-price appetizers. At 7pm enjoy some free chicken wings, chicken tenders, and cheese quesadillas.

For each gift you will receive a hand-inscribed card describing the gift and the organization for your recipients.

5th Annual DC Alternative Gift Fair Happy Hour
Date: Monday, December 5
Time: 6 to 9 pm
Location: The Front Page
1333 New Hampshire Ave NW
Washington, DC
(Right Outside Dupont Circle Metro, South Exit)

Last year, over 121 “shoppers” purchased over 600 gifts of donations totaling over $8,200. We “sold” 71 yoga sessions for seniors, 78 bed nets to prevent malaria in Tanzania, 22 bicycles for social workers in southeast Asia, and 38 transportation cards for victims of domestic violence, along with sponsoring grieving children on therapeutic retreats, giving GED and boat-building training to DC-area youth, and 22 gallons of paint for low-income families. And many, many more!

Please join us this year as we try to beat last year’s total.
Remember… More People = More Fun = More Funds raised!!
PLEASE NOTE: BRING CHECK OR CASH ONLY (we will not be accepting credit
cards). And bring your friends, too!

VOLUNTEER:
We still need greeters, cashiers, calligraphers, on street advertising (mostly in two shifts: early 6–7:30pm and late 7:30–9pm). (Calligraphers need not be professionals, just have nice handwriting.) To volunteer, please contact Sat Jiwan Khalsa at satjiwan@newdream.org.

Thanks,
Sat Jiwan Khalsa
Capital Action Volunteer
